In March, I heard some chatter about the possibility of documenting the Alvin Ailey graduating class of 2016. To my delight, I was eventually asked to and began shooting in April. Here are some out takes from the series. It has been a pleasure to watch these dancers grow and I wish them all the best with their careers.

Performance art, particularly dance, has always fascinated me. Extraordinary human beings spreading their wings to fly on a stage filled with bright colored costumes, and the symphony of movements, meticulously being played out... What is there not to love? What I enjoy about shooting behind the scenes is, from the sidelines, it becomes more about paying attention rather than anticipation. It is a chance to tell a story from a different perspective, an unprecedented one; a glimpse at the split seconds between an individual and a character.
